Fishbol- Toronto Design

Fishbol is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Toronto.  Established in 2005 by Elie Nehme and Mani Mani, the company creates original pieces of furniture, design objects and architecture.
In their words: Our aim is to create innovative work that offers a reinterpretation of the everyday built environment.
This dinnerware collection is called Oh No! and was featured at the Hong Kong Housewares Fair.
I totally love the concept of this rug as does my oldest monkey who likes to 'blink' at me in Morse code:

The 'Dit-Dah' Rug is a play on the character encoding of Morse code. The "dits and dahs", traditionally found in Morse code, are replaced with solid white and bright orange dots to represent the letters, numerals, punctuation and special characters of a given message. The idea is that each rug would contain an encoded message. The rug comes with a set of solid walnut 'S' and 'O' playing pieces, as the rug transforms into a giant S.O.S. playing surface - a nostalgic take on the pencil and paper game.

I am smitten with their furniture collection and especially these chairs:
This chair is called the Gaziibo and has a cool morphed hole designs on either side
I saved my favorite for last-
This chair is called Bookseat and is made using Canadian birch plywood, molded to fit ones body comfortably. With small urban spaces in mind there is a conveniently located book shelf along the base and back of the chair. (This chair comes with a felt cushion- not pictured).

This design won accolades at the 2009 Toronto Interior Design Show
I definitely have a soft spot for books and if you have not already seen my home library check out THIS link

  16. OK-Cool contemporary style. The dishes are different, BUT realistically I could not serve food on them. They look, well they look dirty. As for reading in the chairs, hummm the green one would need a lot more pillows and the birch one-if you leaned back to get comfortable you would slip off.
    I like the colors.

  19. My favorite is the book chair. I could station myself there for very long stretches (with a pillow or sheep wool blanket to cushion my seat!).
