When I was a kid my parents renovated a part of our basement and added a wine cellar.
Presently I have a wine rack- no cellar for me. Where we live there are no basements- nothing but rock under us- but if I was to build a wine cellar/bomb shelter I'd want one of these designs:
Designed by a British company their website states this is the:
quickest, cheapest and easiest way of building a wine cellar for your house.
A watertight, pre-cast cylindrical system that's sunk into the ground, it can be located anywhere. It can keep up to 1,900 bottles in perfect storage conditions and like a traditional cellar it relies on the surrounding earth for its insulation.
I think I need one!

Dear me, you've identified a new lack in my life. I'd quite like a spiral shoe-rack as well.
ReplyDeleteMise I was totally thinking that it could have other uses besides wine- Shoes is a great one- can you imagine!!
ReplyDeletei posted about this in one of my very first blogs - OBSESSED - this is just GENIUS - can u IMAGINE having that?!
ReplyDeleteThat's wild! I agree...I could hide all my shoes down there (if you made it a secret hidden door!).

Wowzers. I am speechless! So, so, so amazing.
ReplyDeleteThese are pretty cool designs, especially the last one!
ReplyDeletehaha, I can think of the possibilities. My mother would use it as a pantry. hehe, my sister as a shoe rack, and me? to store books. It's a genius idea, I remember seeing it at a model home a few years back when we lived in Colorado. I just don't know if I could keep up with 1,000s of wine bottles.
ReplyDeletei don't even drink wine but i would love a book celler like this!!! how fun!
ReplyDeleteoooh! That's awesome. I heart wine!!
ReplyDeletewho the eff texts at that hour of the morning? let's go down in the wine cellar and commiserate. is this week over yet?
ReplyDeleteAll I have is a small wine fridge....love the idea of a basement wine cellar! Are you going to put one in your home?! Love the spiral:)
ReplyDeleteLooking at these pictures makes me dizzy, but what an innovative solution to a storage problem. l Elisa's comment about other storage possibilities had me laughing as I considered my overflowing fabric and yarn stash. Love the idea!

ReplyDeleteLOVE this-I'd feel like a secret agent every time I pulled out a bottle! My parents have a very traditional wine cellar (dark, damp, low ceilings, the whole nine), but I love the idea of a more modern installation!
