Sausage with rye bread, mustard and horseraddish
This is refereed to as meat loaf and made with ham
These Czech dumplings (not unlike a PEROGI) are made with meat filling and served with fried onions
Another variation, not unlike gnocchi, are these smaller dumplings fried with onions and ham or spinach
And a potato cabbage dish
Can't go wrong with a ham and cheese crepe (love Dr J's shadow)
A variation of pizza with ketchup on top
This is my favorite Czech 'snack' called Topinka it translates as toast but is really a fried bread with butter and garlic- topped with various ingredients- in this case: Cheese, coleslaw, tomatoes and cucumbers.
What is your favorite local market/ outdoor food?

i LOVE eating alfresco - lil food festivals (like the Italian feast) are amazing! - but i really just do enjoy eating outside ANYWHERE!
All this food looks delicious. I love the simple and fresh prepared food Topinka. I miss the delicious sausages! Yum!

I so would have pulled up a chair to the side of that giant vat of potatoes and cabbage. It would not have been pretty. Yummy post!

I love perogis. I pretty much love all the food you posted here. My family on my dad's side is Czech, so it must be in my blood. :)
My favorite street food is freshly Moroccan flatbread with honey, freshly fried donuts covered in sugar, and any kind of shawarma.

The dumpling looks so good!
YUM!
These look delicious, although I'd probably pass on pizza with ketchup...I adore street food-put nearly anything on a stick and I'm a happy girl!
Seriously, nothing beats street meat where ever you are. Like the roast chickens you find at markets in France, or Asian food it is the best!
Everything looks SO good! My favourite part of traveling just might be the eating! And by the looks of it, it might be one of yours too ; )
cheese crepes? delicious! as far as eating outdoors, yes, yes, when we visit Mexico, I like eating corn with chili, and lime. ummm rico. this weekend, Denver will be celebrating Cinco de mayo, so there will be lots of eating outdoors, burritos and tacos and churros!
So interesting .... I love seeing what other cultures eat... great photos too!
oh my, that all looks scrumptious!
nothing beats a toronto street hot dog [the ones in NYC can't even compare!], but i also love the chinese food trucks, middle eastern food trucks, mexican food at open bazaars...who am i kidding? i love it all!

crepes!! I wonder if your Czech dumplings are like Austrian knudeln -my friend gernots mom makes them when she visits and it takes her 3 days- then he always us over for it - it's like, the best food in history!
I'm loving all of your photos, keep them coming!!! I"m also sad you were so close (well...kind of) but we didn't get to meet!
Oh my goodness! After seeing that I want a sausage NOW!
great photos...
Oh my, I get hungry just from looking at this post!
Going through these pictures again and again, they're amazing! and just to complete the list, the pizza-like thing is called "langoš", the only difference with pizza is that langoš is fried instead of baked. So much for healthy food :-) But we love it. And a little family recipe: once fried, put a little bit of garlic water on top, add cream instead of ketchup and bit of grated edam cheese.. Dobrou chuť :-)
i love street food! just catching up on blog reading and only just realised you were in austria! hope you had a wonderful trip
