My oldest monkey likes to eat croutons- as a snack.
Croutons are great in salads and soup- If you make your own it is easy to make them 'low fat'.
I have an on going cache of bread bums in the freezer that I toss in every time we start or finish a loaf of my No Knead Bread- Also see No Knead Artichoke Bread.
Monkey Number One decided that he wanted to 'invent' a crouton recipe.
Here is how he did it:
Here is how he did it:
He defrosted the bread bums (also great for making bread crumbs)
Cut up the bread- mixed up some garlic powder and chopped up fresh rosemary
He then added the rosemary to the garlic and mixed it.
He started off by dipping each bread crumb into the seasoning and eventually
sprinkled the bread cubes with it.
He then sprayed the bread cubes with olive oil and popped them in the oven for ten minutes at 275c
The result was a healthy easy snack
But don't just take my word for it-
Here is a two minute 'how to' video that my monkey wrote and 'directed'- I recorded and edited.
He wants to be a You Tube sensation but won't let me post the videos I think would make him famous.
Do you make your own croutons and bread crumbs?

Oh, I haven't made them yet, but seeing this video, I as well might this weekend :-) I guess we have a new Top chef coming, try to drag the approval to post on Youtube from the Monkey, it will surely make him famous and adored :-)
Ah, food glorious food. How delicious this all looks. I ought to try this at home. Have a nice weekened. xx
This is a great tutorial. I like how easy it is to make the croutons. I never thought of croutons as a snack, but they are
a finger food.

Excellent video and I will make this recipe. Loved the cameo appearances by Spike and Monkey#2. Also liked the streaming commentary: just like t.v.!
I have never made croutons, but don't really eat them unless at a restaurant. I was thinking I was going to make a loaf of bread today. I think you just motivated me!
Nope, never made croutons! But your monkeys make it look easy :)
