Film: Never Let Me Go

I really loved the book Never Let Me Go and looked forward to the film.
The story depicts the lives of three friends who grow up in an idyllic British boarding school called Hailsham.  The school focuses on the creative development of the children and provides a nurturing environment based on kindness, sensitivity and understanding. The only interaction they have with those from the outside world, besides their Guardians is when they graduate and move on to their less structured lives at the cottages and their real purpose is revealed.
Dr. J hated the film- (and I quote) "If it's a futuristic movie then why does everything look like it takes place in the 1950's.  In defense of the film, Dr. J hated the idea of watching the film before we even started and barely put his IPhone down from the beginning.
The film was good, certainly thought provoking and worth watching- but I would really recommend reading the book as it was excellent.

Have you seen the film or read the book?

I do not know this book OR movie. I will add the book to my list - I'm looking for good reads this year to accomplish my book a week/52 books. I don't tend to gravitate toward futuristic stories, but this sounds intriguing.

This is at the top of my Netflix queue. I wish I had time for the book but I'm forced to read yucky textbooks instead.

I adored the book when my book club read it a few years back and was looking forward to the movie release. Somehow it came and went to DVD without my noticing. I'll have to pick up a copy of that so I can see it for myself. Glad you liked it.

I liked the book (didn't love it). I didn't realize the movie was out yet. I'm having trouble seeing Keira Knightley in her role but I'll give it a try when it comes out on DVD (I never go to the movies).

Can't wait to see this one, mostly since I love both Carey and Keira, but maybe I should read the book first ;)

I just finished the book on Sunday and am hoping to watch the film this weekend. Books are usually better than the films they are based on but I still want to see it

Good to know! I read the book but I did not finish it. I think I was turned off by a scene and just put it down without ever going back. I was really intrigued when I heard they made it into a movie. Thank you for the review!

I absolutely loved the book-it was so beautifully written. Like Amber, I'm probably going to pop in the movie this weekend, but we'll see if John fares any better than Dr. J!

Never heard of it. But now I wanna read it. I'd rather read than watch a movie.

I saw the movie trailers for this and was so fascinated with what it's about. I'll read the book first before I see the film. Thanks for the recommend.

Neither...one night my roomies all gathered together in our living room to watch it though. They both cried and thought it was beautiful. It bothered me that I went to bed early that night (my old terrible job was the reason why I had to) so I will definitely have to check it out soon.

Maybe You'll Enjoy These Too...
