Artist Peter Callesen- Out Of Nothing

Check out this amazing paper art made out of
ONE PIECE OF PAPER!

Peter Callesen, a Denmark based artist, says in his
Artist Statement:
I find the A4 sheet of paper interesting to work with, because it is probably the most common and consumed media and format for carrying information today, and in that sense it is something very loaded. This means that we rarely notice the actual materiality of the A4 paper. By removing all the information and starting from scratch using the blank white 80gsm A4 paper as a base for my creations, I feel that I have found a material which we all are able to relate to, and at the same time is non-loaded and neutral and therefore easier to fill with different meanings. The thin white paper also gives the paper sculptures a fragility which underlines the tragic and romantic theme of the works.
I love the element of depth and shadow in these shadow box pieces- also made using one piece of paper

And using color and cut out paper

Mr. Callesen's exhibit Out Of Nothing is presently showing in Sweden and will be at the Haugar Vestfold Art Museum in Norway in 2011
Do you LOVE it?

LOVE these. I've gotten super into paper cut art lately -- I learned a lot of arts/crafts as a kid, at school, from family, etc., but never paper-- I wonder why this sin't taught more?

this HAS to be one of the COOLEST things I have EVER seen. seriously. wow. i can't quit staring and analyzing every piece! and they actually tell a story too, or at least pose questions to the viewer and some have a sense of humor as well. wow. one piece of paper? what kind of scissors do you have to have? i guess an exacto blade. i'm just enthralled!

Wow, I am so happy you found my blog and in turn I've found yours. It is already a huge inspiration to me and I've only glanced over it for a few minutes! I love the selection of artwork you've shown here.. I just finished a paper sculpture project with my eighth graders similar to this (of course they were not quite as elaborate!)

I look forward to following your sensational blog!
