Film: The Runaways

Last night Dr. J and I watched a film starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning titled The Runaways- based on the life story of Joan Jett and Cherrie Currie.
The band made popular the song Cherry Bomb and Joan Jett later did a cover of one of my favorite songs Crimson and Clover- this film is surprisingly good and even has a 'make out' scene between Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.  Dakota Fanning has come a long way since starring as Sean Penn's daughter in I Am Sam- another one of my favorite films. The film also gives a great history of girl punk rock band's and music of the 1970s while showcasing Kristen and Dakota's actual singing chops-

It took my tech team two hours to upload this feature below
(by tech team I mean Dr. J) -so please have a listen:

Do you like to listen to Crimson and Clover- over and over?

Definately addictive. I first heard it sung by Tommy James and The Shondells. I enjoyed this version as well- brings back many good memories. Thank you. Clair

My sis and I were just talking about this last week! She asked if I'd heard if it was any good? I really wanted to see it but didn't get around to it, will definitely have to rent now! I loved Dakota in 'The Secret Life of Bees' too... glad she's making the whole adult actress transition. Fan of Crimson and Clover too! That and 'I Love Rock'n'Roll' are my faves by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Hope you're having a lovely Sunday!

I thought this movie was excellent, it seemed like a realistic portrayal of what was essentially exploitation of the band ... although apparently it was much worse in real life.

Both girls were great (although I agree that it's weird seeing Dakota all 'grown up' ...)

I've been interested in reviews of this movie so thanks for giving it one! I love Crimson & Clover, I used to be able to do a really great cover myself - I can make my voice shake like they do in the original. I'm out of practice though!

I rented that movie a few months back and loved it, too. Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart did a fantastic job, I thought....

I haven't seen this movie yet but I enjoy both Kristin Stewart and Dakota Fanning quite a bit. (A friend of mine teaches at the high school where Dakota goes and says she's one of the nicest, kindest people on the planet and incredibly mature for her age.)

I'm gonna rent this!
