Garlic- Roasted Garlic, Health Benefits Of Garlic

I wrote a post here on how to make roasted garlic.
Garlic is very healthy and we eat it as often as we can, year round.
Recently I've been adding it to my no-knead bread recipe and making garlic, rosemary loaves.

We don’t grow garlic in our garden but I do buy it by the three pound bag.  I can't say enough about the health benefits of eating garlic.

It is known for purifying the blood and reducing blood pressure, cholesterol and clotting.  It also works as an antibiotic against various forms of staphylococcus, salmonella, dysentery, and typhus.  Garlic clears phlegm and is a natural treatment for colds, bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis and whooping cough. Tests done on it's health benefits suggests that it aids in treating lead poisoning, carcinomas and diabetes. It also repels insects and can be applied to bites and stings

We also made some LOVEly eggs- thanks to the mail I got from:

I ate my egg with roasted garlic spread in lieu of butter- so delicious.

We made this meal for dinner:
Dr. J chopped up herbs oregano and thyme from our garden and a few cloves of roasted garlic to make this herbed butter.

The next day for lunch we made steak sandwiches on garlic bread:

The tomato was as good as it looks!

What are some ways you like to use garlic?

I'm a big time garlic fan too. My parents grow tons of it in their garden so I'm lucky to inherit the really fresh stuff.
I love the way you cook... especially the plate with the sides of bok choy, quinoa and sweet potato... so healthy!

Have you ever considered opening a
restaurant???? Your meals look delicious. I enjoy garlic and have read much about its benefits and the suggestion to chew parsley afterwards.

to Krystal - garlic is an antibiotic and therefore you can use it as a natural medicine when you're sick. but it lowers blood pressure too. and smelly breath, of course, but a true garlic lover doesn't think about it, i guess. i like garlic more than any other thing in kitchen - i stir in on rusks and eat it, i use it many times instead of onion, i love garlic soup, but my favorite is garlic in mashed potatoes. meanwhile you cook potatoes for mashed potatoes, you just throw in the water whole garlic and when it's cooked, you just mashed it all together. it gets a wonderful subtile garlic fragrance and you just never want to go back to the 'normal' one. :)

Every fall I visit a local organic farmer and buy at least $100 worth of garlic...it's all gone now so I'm stuck buying it from the store...not the same! Everything I cook has garlic in it....

favorite post of the day! I love "aigo" or garlic soup. It's just boiled garlic cloves with olive oil, sage leaves and salt. SO yummy.

Okay, but how is your breath? He he! We like garlic too. I love the smell of it. I use a lot of it in my pasta sauce. I always love the way my hands smell even the day after I have chopped a 10 cloves of garlic. Sadly right now, I think spreading roasted garlic on anything would give me TERRIBLE heartburn... the joys of late pregnancy :)

Cool! Thanks for sharing! I love garlic and new it was good for your health but didn't know any details. Hearing all those benefits makes me want to eat more garlic and be creative using it in cooking.

PS. I'm not sure if this is totally late (I haven't been blogging or reading for over a month, I have lots to catch up on) but... I LOVE your new blog header!
