Chandelier Paint Project

This project was a long time coming- from the moment we moved into our home I wanted to replace the chandelier.  I am not one to shop and 'look' for something but prefer when the universe presents an opportunity.  Little did I know my opportunity was right in front of me all along.  The chandelier I had envisioned was wrought iron and by simply using some black spray paint I already had in my garage- I was able to transform my builder's grade chandelier into something I enjoy looking at:
Taking it down was the hardest part as our ceiling are very high in the dinning room-
I outsourced this part of the project but once it was down it was no more than 10 minutes of active work- not accounting for the dry time between.
I gave the chandelier a quick wash with dish soap and water
I taped up the white 'candles'
Did one spray over and let it dry for about two hours

Then did two more 'touch up' sprays when it was dry enough for me to handle and flip it around without leaving finger prints.

And the final result:
I could not be happier!

I opted to buy seven feet of black chain link instead of painting the original gold colored one-
I left one of the links slightly open so that the chandelier can be low when I have the table in the middle of the room and easily 'linked up' for when I push the table to the side to serve a buffet style meal- otherwise my guest would knock their head on it-
The paint I had on hand is glossy and ultimately the look is more lacquered than wrought iron but of course this could be easily achieved with the right spray paint.

Have you done and fun paint projects lately?

That looks great and so inspiring. I have a similar, (gold colour) chandelier dangling in my dining room) and I think it would look much better black. I am currently painting a table grey ... to use on our porch for dining.

It looks terrific now! I bought an ugly octagonal shaped mirror at the thrift store awhile back and I painted it turquoise - now it's beautiful and gives an awesome pop of color!
