Jonathan Tropper: This Is Where I Leave You

This book is funny.  The writing style is witty, economical and straightforward.
Jonathan Tropper does not mince words.
Judd Foxman is a 34 year old unemployed guy living in a rented basement.  He recently found out that the love of his life, his hot wife, is having an affair with his Howard Stern like, radio jockey boss.  Add to this- his father loses his year long battle with cancer and Judd is forced to return home and sit Shiva (Jewish mourning period) for seven days with his mother, three siblings and their families.
Comedy ensues as the Foxman children sort through their sordid, sexual and often bluntly ridiculous history to try and play nice for a week.
This is a great summer reading book.  I read it in two days (by the pool) and now Dr. J is reading it.

Have you read any good books lately?

Please share your summer reading lists-

I'm always looking for great reads.

I'm still making my way through The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest but really need something to move on to once I finish it.

I've been trying really hard to think of this one book I read a few years ago that would be a great beach read. But I keep googling talking bat/island/stealing natives kidneys/transvestite and I can't find the damn thing.

That sounds like a perfect summer read! I caught up on some big recent hits-The Help, Never Let Me Go, American Wife. I also really loved The Elegance of the Hedgehog-I've reread it twice since the holidays!

Thanks for the recommendation- I'll have to check it out! I finished reading The Wilder Life a bit ago, it's a book based on a woman who grew up loving the Little House on the Prairie book series and wanted to go on a journey to see where else Laura Ingalls lived. It's cute. Not as funny as I hoped, but man does it deliver on the true life trivia.

oh yes, i've see this but havent read anything about it. It does sound like an amusing read.
So im currently reading a book called Foundling by D. M Cornish, its a little Lord of the Rings-esque in terms of a new world, its about a little boy named Rossamund and his adventures and life with Europe a tetralogist ( a monster killer) who can shoot lighting out of her body and call it down from the sky. yea.. i dont really know if thats your type of book ;D
Other books I plan to read this summer is The House In France- its a memoir by Gully Wells about her summer home in France. The other book is The Godless Boys, by Naomi Wood set in England 1986, the Church controls the country and if you are a part of the secular movement, you are expelled to the Island on which religion is outlawed. Its the story of a girl who arrives on the island with the intent to find her mother who had disappeared ten years ago.
As for some reading i think would be good for summer...
Um i dont know if you've read The Help yet, but i read it over spring break and its a sweet story of women in the south who fight for what they want and what they belive in. And there is a HILARIOUS 'pie' incident. I also think the story about 'martian luther king' is just darling and sweet.
For easy reading with engrossing and mysterious tales Elizabeth Kostova writes really elegantly and she really knows how to tell a story. I enjoyed her two books The Historian and The Swan Theives ( if you havent read them already). They're both really different but the smooth writing dosent waver.

wow that was long, but i hope you got something out of my book reccomendations ;D

We read this for our bookclub earlier this year... in January, maybe? It was good. I don't often read a book that's written from a man's perspective, so it made for a nice change.

I'm currently reading The House at Riverton, The Sweet Life in Paris, and The Penderwicks at Point Mouette. Yep, three books at once. That's how I roll!

Speaking of books, I have one in mind for you. As soon as Canada Post gets itself sorted out, I'll pop it in the mail!

Maybe You'll Enjoy These Too...
