Meghan Finkel- Recycled Wood, Fallen Branches, Lamp Art

Meghan Finkel started making lamps in 2004 from fallen tree branches.
After storms she goes out along rivers and beaches and collects the perfect branches to create her recycled functional art work.
These upcycled pieces go through a process of bark stripping, wire brush scraping, sand papering, several layers of primer and finally a powder coat of oil based paint to create a lacquered finish.

The recent storms that have swept across the US make this process of rebuilding and creating something new out of something which is no more- particularly touching.
I love the contemporary sculpture style
and find both the vibrant colors as well as the natural bare branches to be beautiful.

Would you use these lamps in your home decor?

I love them!:)))
they reminded me of a very inspirational book by M.Atwood,I read, it was "Edible Woman"-one of the characters made lamps of the little branches:)
have a great rest of the week!

They are lovely, but most particularly that last one in blue, so graceful and like a startled deer. I would be thrilled to have one.

Yes I would have these - they are lovely. Living in a land without trees I rarely find branches lying around. The storms whip through and leave everything as before - all that can blow away has already done so. xx

These are very beautiful and I love that she repurposes natural material, but some of them strike me as a little creepy...they remind me too much of Dali's Temptation of St. Anthony.

With 2 dogs and 3 cats, those would be a disaster at our house. I think they would turn into scratching and climbing posts, and potentially a good spot to lift a leg on!

I would totally use these types of lamps! I love bringing natural finishes like wood into a home, it makes it so much more earthy. :) I think the first one is definitely my favorite!

I think it's a brilliant idea.

a few years ago we went to a craft show and saw some amazing handmade lamps. they were out of our price range so hubby thought if it was possible if we could make our own lamp, and we did. I didn't think it was possible (with the wiring etc.) we felt very proud of showcasing it in our home. when we moved overseas we gave it to our lovely neighbor and I know it's in good hands.

this post reminded me that maybe it's time we make another lamp.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I would absolutely decorate my home with these lamps...especially the last one because the legs are my favorite color aqua blue!

I love that she uses natural resources as her design inspiration...gorgeous!
