Film: Mammoth

Mammoth is a 2009 film directed by Lukas Moodysson, a Swedish filmaker.
Michelle Williams and Gael Garcia Bernal play a successful New York couple who seem to have it all- Their apartment is spectacular, they both have successful careers and they have a beautiful daughter whom they dote on, named Jackie.
The film takes place in New York, Thailand and the Philippines- with breathtaking scenes in Thailand and the design and style of the NYC apartment is enviable.
The cinematography is well done and the camera angles are well thought out and executed.
The film is touted as a reflection on globalization but I think it it more of a commentary on working mothers and modern day slavery.
The lead characters do an amazing job- I am a huge Michelle Williams fan and as a close observer of a medical professional think she captures her roll as and ER surgeon well.
Gael Garcia-
Well, it is the icing on the cake that he is an amazing actor.

I think she is fabulous too. I always enjoy her perfomances and will see a movie just because she is in it. Actually both of them, their looks are, as you say, just the icing. Will check this one out for sure.

Wow, what a HOT couple, seriously. Piqued my interest when you said "commentary on modern day slavery!" Although I don't see a lot of movies, I think I am gonig to check this one out. Plus . . . he's pretty incredible to look at.

so i just finished watching mammoth. thanks for the recommendation. i too think a major theme throughout the film was about the suffering of being a working mother. it sure solidified my decision to be a stay at home mom. i was a little disappointed with the last line, "we'll have to find a new nanny" but that is the bitter reality for many people today. it was also a great film for juxtaposing the unbelievable wealth in the dot.com industry with the extreme poverty elsewhere in the world. a very thought provoking movie. i'm glad i saw it. i have the flu too (right now) so it was perfect for my melancholy state of mind. : )

Maybe You'll Enjoy These Too...
